Community Coalition Programs

Preventing Crime and Blight: Land Use Committee
Coalition members confront liquor stores, seedy motels and other public nuisances that destryo the economic, social and physical health of the community and its residents. Through the Land Use Committee, members organize for permanent policy solutions that bring quality jobs, responsible businesses and safe streets to South LA.

Advocating for Resources: Prevention Network
A strong social safety net that provides important resources to a community can make a huge difference in shaping the quality of life residents. The Prevention Network is an alliance of social service providers who advocate for proactive policies to increase and improve service delivery to South LA. The current focus is the Ex-Offender Taskforce, which works to remove barrier that ex-offenders face when trying to reintegrate into the community.

Fighting for the Future: SC-YEA
Most South LA youth have more opportunities to sell drugs or join gangs than to receive a quality education or take a college prep class. SC-YEA trains and prepares junior high and high school students to lead the movement for school reform that will ensure every student a quality education, access to college and the ability to succeed in a 21st century workforce.

Parents Taking Action: Parents In Action
Parents and caregivers entrust their children's daily lives and futures to the public school system. But South LA parents are often shut out from key policy decisions affecting their children's education. PIA trains parents to advocate for their children and to work together to improve the conditions in their schools.

Keeping It in the Family: Kinship in Action
Many South LA children lose their parents to drugs or prision. The fortunate ones go to relatives who provide better homes than the foster care system. But few resources are available to kinship caregivers. KIA organizes and trains relative caregivers through its Kinship In Action Center -- a unique one-stop resource shop developed in partnership with the Casey Family Program -- to improve family care in South LA.
