Goals

Community Involvement...
South LA is primarily an African-American and Latino community. A core value of the Coalition is to promote the active involvement and unity of all South LA residents. The Coalition serves as a vehicle for community activism for people in South LA.

Leadership Development...
Coalition members promote the power of collective leadership and hard work. We do not believe in “celebrity-style” leadership. If positive change is to happen in South LA, it will be the result of hundreds and thousands of people working together for the community as a whole.

Education and Training...
The Coalition believes everyone can develop the skills and knowledge needed to influence, shape, and create the type of policies and programs needed to improve South LA. The Coalition regularly organizes campaigns that address key community issues and works toward specific solutions. The Coalition takes pride in always doing the “homework” needed to be knowledgeable about the issues that are addressed.

Advocacy...
The alliance of human service agencies that belong to the Prevention Network advocate for the interest of South LA to ensure a strong voice in areas of policy and to deliver an equitable share of resources to the area.

Contributing to the Building of a Social Movement...
The Coalition does not believe one organization alone is capable of improving the quality of life in our community and throughout the City of Los Angeles. We believe many organizations are needed; therefore, the Coalition works in alliance with other organizations dedicated to social and economic justice.
